History
GreenEarth Heritage Foundation is a farm, a burgeoning reforestation site, an organic agricultural development, a haven of peace and tranquility and a beacon of hope for a brighter tomorrow to its poor residents in the catchment community of the foothills of the Sierra Madre Mountains, San Miguel, Bulacan, Philippines.
GreenEarth is the only NGO in the geographically isolated area. It aims to build a community of hope through its livelihood generation and literacy development.
Since its inception in 2009, what was once a denuded forest and poverty-stricken neighborhood whose daily subsistence was only one meal a day, is now a thriving organic farm community applying sustainable agricultural techniques, reforestation and promoting biodiversity. The farmer beneficiaries have surrendered alliances with insurgent forces and embraced wholesome community living. They are now eating three times a day.
GreenEarth’s theme is, “Transformed Land. Transformed Lives.”
Educational Mission
Preppi School Foundation partners with GreenEarth for its “TOUCH THE FUTURE” Literacy Development Programs.
The beneficiaries children of either farmers participating in our livelihood programs in organic agriculture or residents of the community who attend our values formation programs as part of our Christ-centered community development. These very same parents also provide community service on a regular basis to help accelerate the agricultural development of GreenEarth. They plant trees, do weeding, plant seed beds, help with harvest, and build infrastructure.
Education is tough to achieve for the Children of GreenEarth. Many of them have to walk an average of three hours a day to and from school on unpaved roads, and cross a bridgeless river whose water level varies from below knee to waist up depending on the season.
The rainy season is a most difficult time for the children. When it rains heavily, the river becomes impassable. This leads to a high degree of absenteeism which results in many lost days of learning.
The “TOUCH THE FUTURE” Literacy Development Program of GreenEarth and Preppi School Foundation is a solution to meet the needs of the children of GreenEarth. A Learning Centerwas constructed in 2011. Summer classes and Enrichment courses are currently being offered.
The long-term plan is for Preppi School Foundation to install a FREE Preppi School System in GreenEarth’s Learning Center. Its progressive, time-tested, brain-based, value-laden and international curricula, recognized by the government and known for its track record in producing high performing children who go to big local and international schools, will uplift the children’s present plight so that they may reach their age- and grade appropriate level. Presently, many 13-16 year olds have a second grade IQ only. Tools that concretize the abstract will be provided.
A daily Feeding Program prescribed by a certified nutritionist will nurture the body, to function well and heal from curable ailments derived from unhealthy practices.
To date, while various educational programs are being conducted, GreenEarth and Preppi School Foundation have collaborated to seek Grants and Sponsorships to fund the operation of a fully integrated Preschool and Grade School System right at the heart of the GreenEarth Community.
